Depth and Discovery: The Story Behind ‘The Sea Beneath Us Is Deep’

Some paintings arrive like a wave — full of energy, movement, and emotion. ‘The Sea Beneath Us Is Deep’ was one of those pieces for me. It began as an exploration of texture and colour, but as the layers built up, it became something more contemplative — a reflection on what lies beneath the surface.
Standing at the edge of the sea has always filled me with awe. There’s something humbling about the vastness of the ocean — its calm surface concealing an entire world of motion and life below. That contrast between serenity and strength became the heart of this painting.
I used sweeping acrylic brushstrokes to suggest the rhythm of waves and the feeling of being both grounded and adrift at once. The colours — blue, teal, turquoise, and white — merge and shift like light on water, inviting you to pause and breathe.
What I love most about ‘The Sea Beneath Us Is Deep’ is that it seems to hold a conversation within itself — between stillness and energy, between what we see and what we sense. It’s a piece that speaks to curiosity, introspection, and connection with the natural world.
Whether hung in a coastal home or a modern city apartment, I hope it brings that same quiet sense of wonder — a reminder of the unseen depths that make life, and art, so endlessly fascinating.
