'Untamed' expressive art with meaning - bold yet calming abstract florals combining turmoil and peace in teal pink tones for living rooms.

Painting Through the Dark: The Story Behind 'Untamed' - Expressive Art With Meaning.

Some paintings arrive easily, flowing from joy and lightness. Others come from somewhere much deeper. 'Untamed' is one of those pieces that I painted from a place I don't often share publicly - but I think it's important to be honest about where art really comes from sometimes.

'Untamed' - layered abstract painting with flowing strokes, dark teal depths and luminous pink energy for walls.

I created this piece late last year during a season when things felt heavy. Mentally, I was struggling. Things had gone wrong, I was frustrated, and I just needed to paint something that matched that feeling - but I didn't want to create something hopeless. I wanted darkness, yes, but I also wanted light to fight its way through. I wanted colour to burst through with fierce, unapologetic energy.

That's exactly what happened on the canvas. Deep teals and rich blues became the background - layered and emotional, representing that dark mental space. But then came the light. Vibrant pinks and turquoise that refused to be dimmed, flowing across the canvas with wave-like strokes that reached for calm even in the midst of turmoil.

'Untamed' - dramatic abstract canvas featuring favourite teal shades with vibrant pink colour bursting through darkness.

I layered the paint to create an almost ethereal, chiffon-like quality. The brushwork flows and moves, creating this beautiful tension between struggle and peace, between darkness and light. It's raw. It's honest. It's unapologetically real.

The name 'Untamed' felt perfect because that's what this painting represents - permission to feel everything without pretence. Permission to be authentically yourself, even when that's messy or complicated. Permission to let the dark and the light coexist because that's what being human really looks like.

This piece isn't about toxic positivity or forcing brightness. It's about acknowledging the darkness while refusing to let it extinguish your light. It's about being untamed - wild, authentic, and beautifully complex.

If you're navigating your own dark season, I hope this painting reminds you that your light is still there, fighting its way through. And that's more than enough.
