Wave I — The Painting That Started It All
There’s always a first. A moment when something shifts and you realise you’ve found your thing. For me, that moment was ‘Wave I’.
This was my very first abstract wave painting — the piece that set me on the path I’m still walking today. I’d always loved the sea, always felt that pull towards the water, that sense of calm and awe that washes over you when you stand at the edge and watch the waves roll in. But I’d never tried to capture it quite like this — abstractly, instinctively, letting the movement of the paint mirror the movement of the water.
The result was ‘Wave I’. A swirling, spiralling wave in soft ocean blues and sandy creams, full of energy and life. You can almost feel the curl of the water, the moment just before it breaks. It’s not a literal wave — it’s the feeling of one.
As wave artwork goes, this one is special to me in a way that’s hard to put into words. It was the beginning. And it taught me that painting the sea isn’t about getting it right — it’s about getting it felt.
‘Wave I’ is now available as a canvas print and makes beautiful coastal decor for a living room, bedroom or hallway. The soft blues and sandy creams work well in light, neutral spaces and bring a real sense of movement and calm to any wall. It’s the kind of wall art for the living room that draws you in every single time you walk past it.
