My Journey as an Artist

Hey! I thought I'd write a little post to detail my journey as an artist - my why and how and when! ...I hope you enjoy it :

I’ve always been drawn to art — even as a little girl, you’d rarely find me without a pencil or paintbrush in hand. I was the child forever doodling in the margins of my schoolbooks, completely lost in my own little world of colour and imagination.

At school, I studied art at GCSE and A-Level, but like so many of us, I took what I thought was the “sensible” route afterwards and found myself in the world of software development. It was creative in its own way (because writing code is strangely creative!), but something was missing. When I became a mum, art took a back seat for a while — until one day, once my children were past the baby stage, I felt that familiar tug again. I dusted off my brushes, opened up a few tubes of paint, and something in me came alive.

Here are some of my older pieces and other pics:

I began painting in acrylics at first — lots of waves, seascapes, the kind of subjects that feel both powerful and peaceful. Then I discovered watercolour, which brought a softer touch. I loved the looseness of it — the way the colours flowed and blended like they had a mind of their own. I painted everything from florals to animals to dreamy landscapes. Animals, I must admit, have always been a bit of a favourite — there’s such character and emotion in their eyes.

More recently, though, I’ve fallen in love with oils. I started with landscapes and seascapes again, but soon realised I was craving something more expressive — something brighter, bolder, freer. That’s when I began exploring abstraction. It felt like a whole new language opening up to me — one made of colour, emotion, and energy rather than form and detail.

I’ve spent countless hours experimenting, learning, and finding my own rhythm — discovering what truly lights me up. My work now is all about joy and movement; I want my paintings to lift your spirit, to make your soul do a little happy dance. I hope they bring a sense of warmth and energy to your space, and maybe even make you smile each time you walk into the room.

Like most artists, I’m still evolving. I’m learning, growing, and finding new ways to express the joy I want to feel — and share. This is a journey that keeps unfolding, and I’d love for you to be part of it.

Do you remember the moment you found your “thing” — that spark that made you feel most like yourself? I’d love to hear your story too. 💛
