Why I Painted ‘Closer Than You Think’
Share
There’s a particular feeling that inspired ‘Closer Than You Think’ — that gentle sense of rising into something hopeful, even if you can’t quite see the full picture yet. When I began painting this piece, I was thinking about how often we grow without realising it. How we stretch, expand, and edge closer to the things we long for, even in the small, quiet moments of everyday life.
The colours were the first thing to arrive. Soft pinks, warm peachy tones, a whisper of yellow, and touches of mint that felt like little breaths of fresh air. As the layers built up, the whole piece started to lift, as though everything was moving upward in a soft, swirling motion. It felt joyful to paint — light, airy, and full of possibility — and that’s the feeling I hope it shares with anyone who sees it.
For me, this painting is about potential. About that comforting thought that what you’re reaching for may be closer than it seems. I love how the colours guide your eye upward, like a gentle reminder that you’re growing even when you don’t notice it.

It’s the kind of artwork that fits beautifully into calm, serene spaces. Bedrooms, hallways, cosy corners, or any room where you want a moment of joy. It’s colourful without being overwhelming, playful while still feeling peaceful.
I hope that when you look at ‘Closer Than You Think’, it brings you the same sense of quiet optimism it brought me. A little uplifting spark in colour form — reminding you that your next chapter might already be unfolding.
