The Heart Behind the Art

Hi! Let me introduce myself - my name is Kate Shephard and I'm a Dorset based artist who paints joyful, expressive art inspired by my faith, nature and the ever-changing coastline. I’m endlessly drawn to colour, emotion, and beauty — the kind you can feel as much as see.

For me, painting is both freedom and connection; a way to express what words can’t, and to share something that others can feel too.

I work mainly in oils on canvas, creating expressive, abstract pieces filled with movement, light, and energy. My inspiration often comes from nature — the colours of the garden, the
ever-changing ocean, and the quiet spaces in between where reflection happens.

These moments remind me how beauty and emotion flow together, and I try to
capture that same sense of calm and vitality on the canvas.

Each piece begins with a feeling — a spark of joy, peace, or curiosity — and evolves intuitively through layers of colour and texture. My work explores the freedom to feel deeply, the strength in softness and femininity, and the beauty of being fully alive.

I create for those who crave art that speaks to the soul — people who want their spaces to feel uplifting, nurturing, and alive with emotion. My hope is that my paintings bring a sense of calm, energy, and inspiration into everyday life — a gentle reminder of the joy that comes
from colour, connection, and simply being.
