Shimmering Shores — My New Collection of Original Dorset Artwork in Monochrome & Gold
Share
Dorset has been inspiring artists for centuries. And honestly, standing on these clifftops, looking out across these bays, watching the light do what it does on this particular stretch of coastline — it's not hard to see why.
The Shimmering Shores collection is my most refined and personal Dorset artwork to date. Three original oil paintings, each one a panoramic 30x80cm canvas, each one painted in a deliberately restrained palette of soft indigo, burnt umber and warm neutrals — and each one brought quietly to life with Schmincke Rich Pale Gold bronze powder, a specialist material that moves with the light in a way that ordinary paint simply cannot.
'The Shimmering Pier' captures the view across Swanage Bay — the old pier stretching out towards the Purbeck Hills, the rocky foreshore textured and alive with gold, the water beyond luminous and still. It was inspired by many happy family visits to Swanage over the years and holds a lot of joy.
'Towards Brownsea' is the view from Evening Hill across Poole Harbour — one of my favourite panoramic views in all of Dorset. A solitary yacht sits motionless in still, misty water. The old jetty stretches left. Brownsea Island emerges softly on the right. Everything is held in a beautiful, contemplative stillness.
'Old Harry Reflections' is perhaps the most dramatic of the three — the ancient chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks rising from an inky, atmospheric sea, the waves catching the gold as they move around the base of the rocks. Wild, powerful and deeply beautiful.
'The Shimmering Pier' has already found its forever home, but 'Towards Brownsea' and 'Old Harry Reflections' are both still available. If either of them is calling your name, you'll find them over on my website — link below.
